The role of the national academy of sciences in the science and technology system of armenia
Yuri L. Sarkissyan
pp. 61-68
In [1] some guidelines for restructuring the science policy framework in Armenia are presented. With the disintegration of the centralized Soviet research system, the main policy concern for the country has become the survival problem of the existing powerful science base and its reorientation to the new national goals. On the other hand, it is obvious that without a vigorous science and technology system the country cannot enter the mainstream of the global economy and build a competitive technology driven industry. The point is how to combine the short term preservation measures with a long term strategy for building a S&T system adaptable to the emerging market economy.
