"Float!"

Einav Katan

pp. 43-48

The first chapter of "The Sensual Emphasis of Gaga" follows the instruction to float, as a case study for sensual researches in the practice. The chapter analyzes the instruction from its experimental point of view and reveals the implicit knowledge of the dancers, who move accordingly. The chapter also explores the cognitive activities of the somatic practice and discusses their origins. It underlines the operation of the movement through somatic attention and intentionality. Following the analysis of "Float!" Katan sets the plan of inquiries for the following chapters.
